I am sick of Floyd Mayweather and I am sick of Manny Pacquiao. Why is this a bad thing?

I am sick of both of these fighters.

Both have not fought the best opponents recently, both to me have questionable legacies, both need to fight other, it is the only fight they need to be fighting.

I have personally made it a mission not to care any about whoever these two fight unless it's each other, as have many other boxing fans. Whether Floyd is ducking Pacquiao (which I think he is.. he's waiting for Manny to lose or look bad) or Pacquiao refusing tests up to the day of the fight, unless these two are fighting each other, I really couldn't care less.

What's sadder about this is that both are truly amazing talents. Pacquiao with his combination of speed, power, and aggressiveness, Mayweather with his slick defensive ability and counter punching. It would be a fight of the ages, but it's not happening and I don't think it ever will.

Am I alone on this? Am I the only one who is sick of these two? This is something I have needed to get off my chest for quite a while now.

Update:

Oh no, I am not asking for anyone to care what I think, Generation X, I'm not about that.

What I AM asking, though, is if I'm alone in this opinion? That is it.

Update 2:

I love the sport of boxing and I am well aware of how great these two are, but I know they aren't all there is to the sport. That's all. Sorry if I offended anyone but that was never my intention.

Update 3:

And by the way X, take your own advice, judging from your emotional response. I don't take myself seriously at all, but it sure looks like you do.

I agree with you to an extent. You can pick apart both of their careers and down grade all of their opponants. You can argue that DeLaHoya was past his prime when he fought Mayweather, which is true, You can say he was weight drained against Pacquaio which is true, You can say Margarito ws knocked out by Mosley and Cotto was damaged goods, Ricky Hatton was punchy, Daiaz was over matched, Mayweather lost to Castillo, Pacquaio lost to Marquez... you can argue all those points..but if you do then you are revealing yourself as a new boxing fan. There is nothing wrong with that, but understand thats what boxing is and always has been about. I could argue that Duran was fat, I could argue Hearns had a padded record and was a perfect fit for Leonard, I could argue that Leonard only beat Hagler because he flurried at the end of every round to rick the judges.

I could argue Ray Robinson was a big middleweight and picked on guys smaller then he was, I could argue he allowed LaMatta to be competitive and win the first fight because he needed a rivalry to peak fan interest. I could argue that Chavez padded his record just like his son, I could argue DeLaHoya got a decision over Whitaker because of his looks and popularity. On and On.

All you can do is take what you see, DeLaHoua agreed to 145, Hatton was considered a tough fight prior to the fight, Mayweather beat Castillo decisively in he rematch. Mayweather is the best defensive fighter in the world, Pacquaio is the best Offensive fighter in the world... Its a classic match up that must happen and where I disagree with you is that I beleive it will.

Arum and King have teamed up. Mayweather has been spotted in the company of Don King. This fight will happen in 2011 no question. I would put money down that says this fight happens in 2011 more confidently then I would bet on either man in a fight. Most people give Pacquaio too much credit, and the other half give Mayweather too much credit. I like Pacquaio in this fight, not because im biased but because he did beat the same opponents much easier then Mayweather, Is faster then Judah who gave Mayweather hell. Thats how I am picking not through delusion.

As for who has been avoiding who, its obviously Mayweather, He is the one demanding drug testing outside what is the norm. He fought Mosley who is an admitted steroid user (I love Mosley so that is not a dig just a fact) But is Mayweather not fighting Pacquaio because he is scared? No its hard for me to beleive that any fighter on their level is scared of any other fighter, Most likely Mayweather understand that he sells PPV's because he is undefeated and people want to see him lose, he does not have a PPV pleasing style. If he fought Pacquaio there is a good chance he could lose which would put his value wayyyyyyyyy down, why risk it when he can fight easier fights and make the same money over 5 easy fights then 1. Pacquaio on the other hand does not seem to care much about boxing and uses it merely as a source of income and status. If Pacquaio got the Mayweather fight he would probably retire afterwards win lose or draw with the possibility if a rematch. So no questions its Mayweather holding up this fight being done,. But with Don King and Bob Arum working together...its a done deal. Fall 2011 Mayweather vs Pacquaio the Super fight.

Im certainly not sick of Manny Pacquaio I love to watch him fight, Im all about blood lust and he delivers. Im a little bit sick of Mayweather's outside the ring antics. But what Im really sick of is the "Flomos and Pactards" filling up this forum with nonsensical questions and answers just to try and dig one another. The argument has been done to death and Jose is right there is so much going on right now in boxing at the lower weight classes and all this horse **** does is take attention away from these great light fights.

  • Jose I respect your opinion bro and you are a top contributor in this

boxing section on yahoo answers however, you got to understand I

know the reason that Manny Pacquiao is not getting the best fights

out there available for him is because right now we all know that the

both boxing promotions Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank Inc.

are bitter rivals and they can not do business together. Why do you

think they didn't make the trilogy with Juan Manuel Marquez 3 for the

next Pacman fight? There are a lot of top boxers out there for Manny

to fight Timothy Bradley, Andre Berto and Sergio Martinez are the top

three that I can think of. These fights can be made because two of the

fighters Martinez and Berto are with Lou DiBella Entertainment and the

other fighter Timothy Bradley is with Gary Shaw Promotions so, these

fights can be made in the future. Manny Pacquiao says that he will then

retire from boxing in 3 years a lot of good potential fights can be made.

With Floyd Mayweather Jr. he's got to get through his legal troubles he

is in some "deep water" with the charges he's facing in that larceny case

if he does get off on those charges he'd better call out Manny Pacquiao.

If Floyd Mayweather Jr. can't get the fight with Manny Pacquiao because

of what he's requesting in those test then, Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr

needs to step up and fight all the best boxers in the world just how Oscar

De La Hoya would do in his day. He should give the next generation and

the current champions a chance to fight Bradley, Berto, Martinez or even

a Miguel Cotto fight that would be one to watch on pay per view television.

No this is NOT a bad thing, you do what you want to do, you feel what you wanna feel, you say what you want to say, just like everyone else.

The thing is (in my opinion which I too think little of whatever other people think about it), is that this May-Pac thing has gone out of hand, ALL mainly because of the race thing and fans of each side mad as hell at the other side... Pac does not want to fight Black Fighters (so what?). May does this, does that (so what?). Excuses, excuses, excuses. C'mon...

Most of us have been following boxing and certain boxers since we were toddlers. It does not matter what we think and where we come from. Fans are fans, where ever they are in the world (and I understand that some might defend their idols even if it will make them look ridiculous doing it).

BUT what I'm sick of is the race-hatred words of some fans, I am sick of the reasons why the fight has not happened yet. BUT I am not sick of either fighter.

I'd still watch their fights, whoever they will be willing to fight or for whatever reason.

BUT hopefully we do get to see them fight each other at the soonest time.

I am already resigned that these two will never fight. It is not that this is a fight that is not meant to be made but more on egos but on the other hand, I believed that this is somebody's "will" not to happen. If you will consider all what is happening here at Y/A and in some areas, you will have the same wish that this fight won't happen. The argument, misunderstanding and a lot of things was so intense that will make you believed that this fight will not happen without unnecessary incident. It is almost to a point of having too much to be fix if it is still repairable. So childish and senseless and I deeply regret that I am a part of it. Nobody is innocent on these. We are all guilty.

You can blame both the fighters trying to holdout for the biggest payday in their careers, Meanwhile Pacquiao could have already fought fighters like Zab Judah, Andre Berto, Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey, Shane Mosley, Paul Malignaggi, Timothy Bradley, Amir Khan, and Devon Alexander. The same can be said about Mayweather...nuff said !

Wow I am a bit fascinated hoe Rudiger shared his opinion... Honestly bro i commend your unbiased assessment of the situation! I just hope, like Jose hopes and everyone else that this fight will happen.

    @ Jose:

Sup bro! I just like to give you an advice not to take this whole Pac-May drama seriously. I mean, what if this fight finally happens and all these dramas are all hype? Would you agree with me that you may tell yourself, "Damn I told you it will happen, I should have known better..."

Anyway, I understand your emotions. That's what I have felt when both negotiations collapsed, I felt before that boxing sucks already. But coming to my senses, I kept my composure back. Only to realize this what ifs and only ifs and then continued to hope for the best in boxing. I really look forward this megafight will really happen! Cheers pare!

    Source(s): Humble opinion...

Very interesting question! It was refreshing to hear that a few of the responders have now reached the point of not defending either fighter because neither of them have "clean hands". I try my best to avoid spending any tme or energy when it comes to these to and what could be. Maybe it will happen and maybe it won't but I am done with the roller coaster...

I respect your opinion Jose.I understand if someone is neither a fan of Floyd or Manny but a huge boxing fan they have every right to be aggrieved about the current situation but i'm a Floyd fan and will back him all they way and i'm sure you respect that!

  • 1 decade ago

Yeah I feel the same way. I'm like: what the hell are these two guys doing? It's like they're both scared to fight eachother for some reason. I've just switched to watching different weight classes even if welterweight is the most exciting.

  • I believe most sports fans tend to give athletes way too much credit with respect to their ability to control anything other than what they do inside a ring, gym or stadium. Overestimation of their abilities ultimately translates to misdirected anger while the actual culprit(s) walk out back doors with heads held high.

If circus clowns provide a disappointing performance do we blame the clowns or ring master? When B.P.’s rig spewed oil into the gulf for months did we blame employees on the rig or did we fault their board of directors and ceo? When Katrina devastated the gulf and FEMA employees failed in their duties did we blame them or President Bush? If in all other aspects of life we focus our rage on leaders, why do we blame the employee/independent agent (athlete) in sport?

All of you, as a collective, have an unrealized power over the sport due to your individual passion to communicate opinion. Look around, it’s those with passion and sharp focus that solely maintain the ability to affect change. Sharpen your spears (figuratively) boxing forum and demonstrate your collective power by demanding the sport leadership provide a product you want. Make them walk with their heads down in shame!
