Eye problems? Double vision?

I think I have double vision, but I'm not completely sure. I've done some research, and usually, they always ask if this happens towards the end of the day, what part of the day, etc.

However, I only get this once in a while, and I actually have to concentrate to get it to happen. (I thought it was really cool when I was a child).

Right now, however, it doesn't occur anymore, except when I'm staring really really hard at something. Should I inform my parents about this and go to an eye doctor?

Thanks!

It's unlikely to be an astigmatism, that doesn't cause double vision per say in the traditional sense. An astigmatism will not happen occasionally and won't be brought on by staring. You may be suffering from intermittent tropia. Simply sometimes when you are tired, or ill, your eyes may become misaligned, causing eso or exotropia, when this happens you may produce double vision, as the input from each eye is different when sent to the brain, hence producing 2 different pictures that you cannot combine. The condition isn't serious, and if it is fairly minor may not need treatment at all.

If your parents haven't picked up on it, then I doubt it's very serious, as when you produce the double vision it's also noticeable to others. The usual test involves covering one eye up, and starting at something in the distance, when you uncover the eye, it may be out of alignment. If you're interested then you might want to see an optometrist/optician so they can confirm you are suffering from a minor form of strabismus.

I've found a link with detailed information if you need any further reading, it gives you diagrams and what not so you might find it interesting to see if you do indeed have intermittent tropia.

You did not say how old you are. All young people should have a full eye exam at a real eye doctor's office when they start school, to rule out problems. Double vision is pretty common with millions of us because of a simple eye condition called astigmatism. Astigmatism is easily corrected with glasses or contacts and when you get older with Lasik, laser surgery.

I have double vision when I am not wearing my glasses. Uncorrected when I look at the letter "o" it looks like an "8" to me - double vision. Glasses fixed that for me and took away the eyestrain and headaches I had been having for years. Google "astigmatism" to learn more about it. But you problem could be something else of course. Good luck.

You need to see an eye doctor, or make an appointment with your regular GP.
