how to get damp/mildew stain out of floorboards?

we had a floor replaced which had rotted due to damp - the damp course was sorted out / renewed prior to the new floor being layed but residule moisture has leeched through and stained the floorboards where they meet the wall - the floor is pine and has been varnished with a clear varnish - is there anyway we can remove this staining without having to cut out and replace the affected area - we are trying to sell the house now and it is a real red-flag to buyers because it looks like we have a damp problem - any advice please - thanks xx

Just read the first answer to your question- be very careful/wary of doing this yourself, call a local floor sander for advice, or get back the one that did the job recently.. if staining is the answer, they will be best equipped to advise you on this, but I would recommend talking to a professional on this one!

You would have had a specialist to treat the floor and this staining may be due to the treatment applied to the wood.

What you could do is try using neat bleach on the darkened areas a see what happens if worse comes to worse you may need to sand the area but there are other options how about staining the floor with a proprietary floor stainer B & Q sell floor stains. Sanding is awfully messy.

The only thing would you can do is to sand the eff active area to get rid of the stain and then match it with the rest of the floor.Use a fine paper to start, you can always go to a coarser one ...................good luck.
