Who gets taken 1st Overall in a Contraction Draft (Read On)?

Imagine that the NHL decided to contract 6 teams to get the league to 24. The six teams contracted are: Phoenix, Florida, Atlanta, New Jersey, Columbus, Nashville.

The NHL annonces a contraction draft for the remaining 24 teams where they can pick any player from the six teams without cap ramifications (But they still have to pay their current salary). Using the current standings the Oilers would pick first.

Pick who would Edmonton select first overall (Also if possible include the next 2 choices). Whoever has the highest will be selected. Tomorrow Ottawa will make their pick and each day someone else will to determine hypotheticaly what would happen.

So from the six teams who does Edmonton take

Update:

My pick: Rick Nash,

Update 2:

LITY- I was simply assuming more based on markets. Ottawa and Tampa do surprise me more. I always think of Tampa as the more stable better organization in Florida well Florida is referred to by many as Hockey Hell.

Also I'm simply saying in a hypothetical draft to see what would happen if the league was't overexpanded how would other teams be affected

Also at the time the Oilers were behind Ottawa in the standings at the time

    1) Florida and New Jersey are profitable teams and unlikely candidates for contraction. Ottawa and Tampa would be the next two contraction candidates.

    2) The NHL does not have the sole authority to make a contraction decision, the NHLPA would have that.

Using your scenario however, the first player taken would be Ilya Kovalchuk. He's the only player on those 6 teams ranked in the top 20 in Central Scouting. Ottawa would certainly take Nash. The Islanders would probably take Shea Weber

Weber or Nash probably. But why Edmonton first? I think Ottawa is last in the standings right now.

I refuse to respond this question because of certainty which you suggested New Jersey must be taken away. even with the indisputable fact that i've got confidence Parise ought to for sure be taken first, even even with the indisputable fact that Rick Nash ought to via and great be fourth after Yandle and Weber

I refuse to answer this question because you said New Jersey would be taken away. Though I think Parise would undoubtedly be taken first, though Rick Nash would probably be fourth after Yandle and Weber
