Should I tell my boss something disturbing I found out on the internet about my coworker?
I work management in a retail drug store in NJ. Three weeks ago some creep stole the money from the girlscouts selling cookis out front the store. Me and my associate (who we will call Moe Lester) handled the problem and wound up getting a little publicity on the deal. I heard the other day they caught the theif. I wanted to find an article on it so I typed in some keywords into google. After not finding anything on it I was desperate to find any article on it. I typed in his name followed by "young girlscouts" then the name of our town and the arrest. I finally got news articleson my search but it wasnt at all what I excpected. There were numerous articles with my associates name plastered on them. It winds up that back in March of 2010 he was arrested for trying to lure a 12 year old he met on the internet to a park to hav sex with her. The park is in north jersey and he lives in trenton. The ride is 2 hours long. It winds up that the FBI was posing to be the12yo girl. He was charged with three felonies for the girl, 1 felony for fleeing and alluding, and a misdemeanor for resisting arrest. His bail was $100,000. he put up his house and car for it nd he didbt miss a day of work that month so he prolly made bail next morning. Nobody noticed any red flags. So now my question is is if I should tell my store manager ( i dont wanna look like a snooper). And if I dont, how do i still work with him without going off on him. Should I try to let it slide? He told me he had some type of court to go to in two weeks. He wouldnt say why. He will be out of the store soon and in the state pen most likely. ALso how long to you think he'll away ?

If it is uncomfortable to work with the guy from this point foreword then go tell your boss and don't be worried that you feel like someone who creeps on criminals. It is reasonable to look at something if it happened to you. You were curious that is all. If you can work with the guy until he leaves then it is up to you to figure out if you want to tell your boss. However, if the guy doesn't get caught then tell your boss because you should not have to work with a criminal. However, it is your decision on what you feel is right or not.

Did you put his name into a search engine or run it through phone directories? You certainly would feel foolish if you have this wrong. There are several people with my name in the world, and I have a very rare surname. Google yourself. Maybe one of them is a criminal.
Not to mention that he might have to go to court to pay a traffic fine or show up for jury duty. In which case, you've once again made a fool of yourself.
Either way, he's innocent until proven guilty.

There are lots of people that share a name. Guess what happens if you tell your boss this and its a nother guy with the same name? You get sued for slander. Thats basically the text book definition of slander according to Black's.

Wait till somebody else gets employed. Repeat with somebody else you do unlike. edit: think of roughly it- with you continuously choosing up the slack for the recent workers, your supervisor will think of of you as "unswerving" and a "perplexing worker". He may even provide you a small boost and a "managerial place". In different words, save up the forged paintings- you have basically got here across an elevator next to the loooooong ladder to center administration.

Don't think you really should say anything unless he becomes a threat to someone. Example, If you saw him talking to the girl scouts or with a very young customer, etc. You can keep a watchful eye though.
