Who gets taken 2nd Overall by Ottawa in a Contraction Draft (Read On)?What would you like to ask?

Imagine that the NHL decided to contract 6 teams to get the league to 24. The six teams contracted are: Phoenix, Florida, Atlanta, New Jersey, Columbus, Nashville.

The NHL annonces a contraction draft for the remaining 24 teams where they can pick any player from the six teams without cap ramifications (But they still have to pay their current salary). Using the current standings the Oilers would pick first, Ottawa wold pick 2nd.

Pick who would Ottawa would select 2nd overall (Also if possible include the next 2 choices). Whoever has the highest will be selected. Tomorrow NY Islanders will make their pick and each day someone else will to determine hypotheticaly what would happen.

We'll also do this on each teams SN blog.

Picks so far:

1. Edmonton- Rick Nash

*Also as LITY's pointed out NJ and Florida would probally be unlikely canidates for contraction. I just used them since at the time they seemed more likely

My Pick: Shea Weber

Interesting question. I doubt Nashville would be contracted, but why not.

I'd say Ottawa gets Zach Parise.

Edit: My rationale: Parise could easily become the Senators' franchise player with the Sens basically having a fire sale this year and Daniel Alfredsson on the brink of retirement. Weber would've been my second choice, but they already have Karlsson. I think they need both offense and defense, but I think they'd go with offense even with wingers like Milan Michalek already there.

I was also tempted to say Mike Fisher just for the pure irony.

    Edit again:

    2nd choice - Shea Weber

3rd choice - Eh... Nik Antropov, maybe?

The sens need a young player to re build the team around it would be better to get a winger to play with Spezza. For that reason I would pick either Kane or Parise .

I refuse to reply this query due to the fact that you stated New Jersey might be taken away. Though I believe Parise might obviously be taken first, even though Rick Nash might by and large be fourth after Yandle and Weber

Zach Parise, Ilya Kovalchuk, or Evander Kane. I would take Paris's or Kane. Kane is a good young player so I'm not sure who I pick.

    Parise

    then Weber

    then Kovalchuk

    Ya, I'd go with Parise.

    2nd choice: Weber

    3rd: Vokoun.
