    It is hard to equate any European country with the developing countries of the Third World, since in all of them there have been at least the trappings of western civilisation for a long while.

    I agree with John P, but if you mean developing economies, I would say that Poland has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. Since the break up of the Soviet Union, it seems to be the country that has adapted to Western European ways faster than the others. But it was always a civilised and cultured country before it lost its freedom.
