How to become a world class soccer player?

My daughter (11ish) loves and lives soccer. So much so, she told me she wants to become an "international soccer player." She can't seem to get enough. She lives for this wonderful sport! We live in San Diego and plays for one of the top teams here. She trains with Mario (san diego futsal), Jen Nielsen (jb soccer training) as well as her club team.

We gave used this kind video as kind of a road map.

She gets all A's at school with some B's once in a while. What do you recommend or have to say about this?

I believe 30% of all national team players come our of San Diego. If you do not live there, move there.

Problem is that there are so many coaches, who do you trust? One thing I know is that just because a person can play, it does not mean they can coach (case in point there are so many (lots!) of folks talking about Shannon Macmillian at the Sharks). If you read her own words in the Soccer Nation article(s), she seems to be committed to the Olympic Development, but not so much her own club team(s). Then, she comes across as a person consumed by herself and her position while not about getting things done (case in point, how long has her office at the Sharks been flooded out now?).

I say join a good club team there and do everything they offer. SD Surf Soccer (Coaches like the Ocampos, Leadcock, Cowan, and Hansen) keeps getting voted the best club in SD. Then, there is a new San Diego Football Academy that just started up which seems like an extremely excellent way to go as well (Coach Bo and Jen Nielsen, Coach O, and Johnson).

Futsal is really a good thing, but it is so hard on the players' knees, ankles, and hips. And kids growing up can age themselves prematurely with this. Make sure to get the specially made shoes to help with this. I say proceed carefully and if your child complains about any of these hurting, take them out of it until they fully recover.

One more thing, there is an individual Coach Dolinsky out there. He is good and will give you your money's worth.

    Happy fishing.
