Is Dale Tallon nutso!?

Several years ago, Tallon mistakenly signed Samsonite baggage to a contract in Chicago, only to spend the better part of the next 4 months trying to correct his mistake. Baggage was a hard boy to trade because nobody wanted him. Tallon eventually 'lost' his baggage to Carolina.

Fast forward 3 years, and suddenly his lost Baggage has washed up on the shores of Miami Beach.

So, is Tallon nuts for re-acquiring a guy whom he tried so hard to get rid of years ago?

DWIW................Carolina has traded Sergei Samsonov (aka Samsonite Baggage) to Florida for Bryan Allen (couldn't they fit these guys into the Stillman/Carter deal on Thursday?)

Dale...............you're killin' me!

Update:

Meerkat - should have been FWIW (For what it's worth).....I have stubby fingers!

Steve - you're welcome. I think Wideman will be a good fit in Washington. Above average 2nd pair defenceman.

Update 2:

Joel - Campbell is paid what he is because he is the league's premier puck moving defenceman (according to league GMs), has speed, and at the time, those were the offers he was getting. keith and Seabrook weren't in that class when Campbell was signed, but they mature a lot more quickly than many people thought they would after many had given up on them (Keith was drafted in 2002 and Seabrook in 2003....obviously not in the same class as Drew Doughty when it comes to learning the NHL game fast).

The other caveat is that you are paying for a guy who greatly improved your transition game, and greatly improved the D-men around him....most notable Keith, Seabrook, Barker, and Hjalmarsson. It is stuff like that which Coaches and GMs see that fans tend to deride, or ignore. Similar thing happened with Chris Phillips...............he accepted a contract extension at a rate similiar to this year's pay..........and people are saying it's too much...........but at $3MM a year you get a rock

Update 3:

GoCanes - there is no doubt in my mind that Carolina got the better end of the deal.......but I just can't get over Tallon reacquiring a player he wasn't crazy about. It almost makes me laugh!

A complete salary dump for the Panthers. Allen made around $3M while Samsonov is between $1 and $2M. Samsonov is a UFA after this season and the Panthers don't have to bring him back. On the Canes side, they needed a big defenseman and hopefully Allen provides that and can pair with Joni Pitkanen. The trading of Samsonov also opens a much needed bottom 6 slot for a prospect to play full time in the big league, likely Jerome Samson.

As a Canes fan, I like the trade already, and love it if Allen plays as the organization and I hope he will. It was time for Samsonov to go and based on Samson's past few games, he's ready to play here full time. Plus he's like 15 years younger than Sergei.

  • It is a curious trade...I've never really seen the value for Samsonite (great nickname) given his cap hit.

Perhaps Tallon thinks Samsonite, as a known entity can temporarily plug a hole; not sure how Allen was perceived and if he wasn't a favourite of Tallon's.

Have to wonder what Brian Burke's reaction to seeing EDM trade Penner for Teubert, a 2011 first round draft pick and a 2012 conditional pick (who EDM offer sheeted away from ANA while Burke was there) was. Have to say it's a solid return by EDM for Penner at first glance, but like any deal involving draft picks we won't really know for several years.

At a glance, have to say I think Washington did very well now that things seem to be dying down; Sturm isn't afraid to get his nose dirty, Wideman is a good pickup, and Arnott is a great pickup for their biggest hole. Plus, it's not like Washington gave up a boatload of elite prospects (Steckel and a 2nd is a good return for Arnott and helps both teams).

nicely, the panthers purely have a million greater spot left and nonetheless can spend 14m in the past attaining the cap decrease. The lightning are closer to winning a cup, yet for a manner long, Stamkos is youthful on a similar time as maximum of tampa's stars are older and nicely into their 30's. it can be a great %.-up by way of fact the panthers have already obtained 10 sturdy gamers this loose organization and only those days signed Mike Santorelli. I say that Stamkos could be greater suitable off with the lightning now yet whilst he have been to sign with the cats he could be a factor of a championship contending group that Dale Tallon is becoming down in South Florida.

Maybe he looks to Samsonov as his good luck charm. Kind of a reminder of what he had done in the past. Some people like to have those reminders around. George Steinbrenner had Billy Martin. Punch Imlach had Floyd Smith. Gretzky had McSorley. Kind of made them feel lucky.

Gotta ask, when (if) you saw Sampsonov play all those years ago, before the NHL, did you see him being more then what he turned out to be. I remember some Vipers games and thinking this kid has something... wonder what happened.

    Sounds like he is.

I would like to thank him on behalf

of Capitals fans for sending us

    Dennis Wideman for a ECHL

player and a third round pick.

Screw that guy, He traded away Wideman, MCcabe, Allen, the top defense players and Dvorak, That had been the Florida Team and now All gone. and I have no clue why he would even get Samsonite!

Heck, LITY....I don't have a clue what DWIW is so there is little chance that I could give you a respectable answer on the real question. It's fun answering one (no, two) of your questions. It just goes to show me, once again, how much I DON'T know.

Here IS something that I know. Samsonov looks like one of Santa's elves. Yes. I looked him up. That was the very least I could do.

OH! THAT makes sense (she says trying to talk herself into thinking she would have gotten that one). Mine aren't fat, they just fumble....a lot.

I still don't understand how Campbell makes significantly more than Seabrook and Keith

    Add:

I know you know a lot more than me, and I'm not trying to p-i-s-s you off. $7mil is something that Edmonton would have to pay to get him to play here, not Chicago.

He might be, but he ain't even close to Bob Clarke at the re-acquisition game.
