If you could redesign the NFL Scouting Combine, what would you do?

OK, I drank some more NFL Kool-Aid and actually enjoyed the watching the DB's drills last night. So, now I can see the advantage of having as many players as possible do the same drills, go through interviews, etc. But there's always room for improvement, yes? How would you redesign this event?

Well for starters, I would have the combine elsewhere. I don't think anyone knows why the combine is held in Indianapolis every year. I don't really mind it, but for once in a while I think the venue could change, perhaps to a bigger stadium.

Secondly, I would like to see drills in a not so controlled environment. When players are working out on the inside, it does give them a controlled environment meaning they can't make as many mistakes. Some might not agree with me on this, but I want to see players who can drill in outdoor situations and different playing surfaces to see if they can still maintain. I think the only reason the combine is held indoors is to limit the amount of mistakes or keep the speed of the players up to par. But I want to see how they fare in different weather situations and surfaces.

First and foremost, I'd have them in pads.

The 40 time, shuttle, broad jump, high jump all means nothing without the pads on. They sure aren't going to play the game in their underwear. Make the drills relevant as it pertains to actually playing the game. Pads, helmet, cleats, etc.

There's nothing really wrong with it at all. If you want to question the way combine results are used when evaluating talent, that's fair, but it's a great way of judging a player's raw physical tools and the way they respond to being in a competitive unfriendly environment, as opposed to their pro days where every little thing is orchestrated and micromanaged to make sure they're as comfortable as possible.

i would have NFL players there coaching the future draft picks from every team in the draft so they can bond and get a feel of the players.also cheerleaders, fans, hitting drills,Quaterbacks throwing passes to the draft picks from the NFL.

I'd have the players bring strippers with them and we'd just laugh watch nekkid womenz and have a ball.

I didn't say it would be helpful, that's just what I'm into.

I would make them run in pads when they get timed for the 40 yard dash

I'd make it relevant, not a dog and pony show for NFL fans.
