Aw come on Jason, shouldn't you know why you left? Well, the reason you left is because you weren't happy with the way Metallica treated you.

He said that he spent way too many years being the "new guy" in the band, and never really felt like a "full" part of the band. He also wanted to do some side music projects and James Hetfield was not happy about that and tried to prevent him from it. The combination of the tension was probably the reason he left.

Side project, Echobrain, while at the same time James didn't really allow him to contribute much to Metallica anyway. Huge Metallica fan and James is my idol as guitar player but the way you were treated was totally messed up.

I think it was because James didn't want Jason's side project to interfere with Metallica.
