If a woman asks a man out to dinner, who is responsible for paying the bill?

What's the rule?

Update:

I think that's very interesting. I have found in dating older men (40 and up), even if I requested the date they will not let me pay. However, if I date a man within my age bracket (25 - 35), I pay or we split it.

I think the one who did the asking should be the one doing the paying. But most gentlement would not allow a woman to pay, so therefore, hope he pays, but dont throw the idea of you having to pay it out, since you invited him he may be expecting you to pay.

It should be 50:50 regardless of who asks who out, that's how things should be if everyone is equal, you cant mix and match equality when it suits you-at least not unless your a hypocrite.

The general rule is that host pays.

That is not not to say he cannot offer to pay.

Technically there is no rule, what you do is bust out your purse when the check comes, and hope he picks it up first. If he doesn't then you wonder if he's worth a second date.

I think he should, at the very least, OFFER to pay

My mistake... typically...if she asks him out, she should be prepared to pay. He may offer to, but he isn't obligated to unless that pre-specified.

Who cares? You're both eating. So why don't you just split the bill or something? Or pay for what you ate. IDK. I guess if you HAVE to pick, I guess the man is. :P
