So I need a bit of info on belly rings/bars, can you help?

Okay, so I want to get the top of my belly pierced, and I have a few questions. 1. With the initial piercing, does it matter if the piercer uses a straight or curved bar? 2. I see most people have curved ones, is there more chance of infection or something like that, if a few months down the track i decide to wear a straight one, or does a curved one just look better? and 3. What's the average length of the bar? Thanks for any help(:

    1. They are usually curved

    2. They're curved for a reason. Straight ones don't accommodate the anatomy of the body, so it'll reject ultimately your body will push the bar out of your skin. Not to mention a straight barbell would be uncomfortable. Although if it were already healed it would become irritated very quickly, and trust me when that happens it sucks.

    3. the skin between the holes should be at least 5/15". so it should be more than that. 1/2" is a little bit to big.

Source(s): I own the Piercing Bible and have a navel piercing.
