Solving transcendental functions?

I have an equation

.05exp(x) = x + 1

Is it reasonable to differentiate each side with respect to x and then solve for x, i.e.

d/dx [0.05exp(x) = x + 1] => 0.05exp(x) = 1 => x = 3

Just a thought. What do you think?

    Not reasonable at all. Just because two things are equal at some point does not mean their slopes are equal at that same point, if anywhere.

    Solving this requires advanced techniques or ot must be done mnumerically.
