I'm a preteen girl, and having boy trouble. Help?

Okay, for starters, I have liked this guy for almost three years now, but for two months my best friend liked him, so I kind of had to hold back during those two months. If it is any help, here is the back-story. So, when I was in the fifth grade, that was when best friend liked him for those two months. He was in the same choir as me (And yes, he IS 100% straight.), and he still is in the same choir as me. We were pretty close in the fifth grade, because I was the only person who could see that he was the only guy who wasn't a jackass in the whole grade. But, as time went on, we began to drift apart. I am in the seventh grade now, and we are still not only in the same choir, but in drama club together (Once again he's straight.). He has made other friends, but we still talk every now and then, I guess you could say. So, how can I get him to ask me out? Please? (And yes, I do know that you can't "get" or "make" a guy ask you out, but you know what I mean.)
