Why is Tony Allen starting over O.J. Mayo?

Did I miss something?

Update:

I could be wrong though because when I looked at NBA.com it showed these starting five: S. Young, Zach Randolph, Tony Allen, Mike Conley and March Gasol. I looked at the minutes between the two and Mayo got more. I don't really watch Memphis games so I would know to well.

Mayo is a headcase, and Tony has been scoring 15 plus points in the past few games, aside from that, he's much better defensively compared to OJ.

Well if you did then I did too... Their rookie Xavior Henry was starting before Allen did for Mayo, but I guess he didn't do a good enough job. As for mayo I think he's been inconsistent this season and also think he's having issues with the organization including the coach. That's why Lionel Hollins is benching him. It's probaly more personal issues that's the reason for his decreasing minutes and starting role issue.

EDIT: That's true actually , but a NBA player that has a lot of ego like O.J Mayo would want to be called a starter. I think he currently averages 12 to 16 ppg, but that's a decreasing compare to his 20 ppg last season.

Because Tony Allen has been playing well as of late. The Grizzlies have been trying to trade OJ Mayo without success.

It's because O.J. Mayo has been complaining about the franchise and Tony Allen has been doing very good as of late and so it's a perfect switch for the time being.

OJ Mayo never lived up to lofty expectations. He deserves to come off the bench.

Mayos having a bad season, Hes getting to complacent, I think the staff want to scare him, to make him greatful, so he'll step it up when his next starting opportunity comes around.

it is to spread their offensive threat or production way down to their bench. and putting allen on their starting 5 adds defensive punch since all those other 4 starters care less about defense.
