Is it true that Jeep/Chrysler is discontuing the Compass/Patriot after next year?
I read someplace, from some auto review mag that Jeep will discontinue the Compass/Patriot after Fiat comes in next years as a major partner? Both models have finally built a fan following and the Compass was just revamped this year with a new front end that makes it look like a mini Grand Cherokee. I had a 2007 Compass and it was great for the price and it did everything asked of it. Hate to see Jeep defer to a foreign car maker to supply us with small SUVs. Anyone know about this? Next year? This is the problem with Chrysler, the spend millions to develop a model and then change their minds after many people purchase them.
Ashlee, thanks the link that works great. And you are so right, all of the big three were making economy cars (or importing them under their US badge) and the had limited markets because we, the consumers, didn't buy them in favor of huge vehicles we had no use for them.... the Hummer was the tipping point for absurd vehicles. I know that Fiat is marketing the Dodge Journey in Europe next year (2012) with a diesel and calling it the Fiat Fairmont or some name similar to that but I had not seen any press on what Fiat/Chrysler was releasing in the US yet. You answered the question which was are they are aren't they...I have two answers so far, one is 40 pounds of know it all blah blah blah that does not answer the question and your answer which is spot on. I think I have to wait awhile before I can crown you but unless someone comes up with something better you are royal.

Hi there
You wrote ''--after Fiat comes in next years as a major partner?''
What is this after ? , FIAT already owns the majority share.
------------
''Both models have finally built a fan following--''
Unfortunately a fan following doesn't pay the bills , and a lack of profit is the reason why Chrysler-Jeep faced bankruptcy.
------------
''I had a 2007 Compass and it was great for the price--''
That was the problem , they could not sell them for enough to make profit.
If it was superior product , they could have sold it at a higher price.
------------
''Hate to see Jeep defer to a foreign car maker to supply us with small SUVs.''
So you would prefer this car manufacturer to enter bankruptcy then ???
------------
''This is the problem with Chrysler,--''
The problem with Chrysler is that they made large overweight gas guzzling dinosaurs that couldn't compete in the world market , nor the domestic.
If FIAT cans the large range of vehicles , then that would be great for the company.
Maybe then they can bring this US brand into the 21s century and make cars that function well , are reliable , safe , and fuel efficient , exactly like what has been done in Europe ,,,,,,,,,, since the 70's.

Honestly only Chrysler/Fiat know what will be replaced when...however if you check out this link http://www.allpar.com/corporate/chrysler-group/fiv... you will see that when Chrysler/Fiat went to congress for a bailout they submitted a 5 year plan. This plan is detailed on Allpar.com and iff you read thru it you come to the Jeep Section which states...
In 2013 Patriot, Compass, and Liberty will be replaced by vehicles “developed from Fiat platforms”
Now here is the thing..if you want to know anything about Chrysler, including Jeep Dodge and RAM (yep they are there own entity now) Allpar is the place to go. They have "insiders" that are very reliable and have pretty much hit everything spot on. They were saying the new Jeep Grand Cherokee would be redesigned in 2010 but it actually was 2011....
---Oh and I can't let this one slide the problem with Chrysler, actually all manufacturers was US. Yes Me, you and anybody else that would not buy a small econo car until the gas scare. Dodge made the Omni, Ford made the Escort Chevy (Geo) made Metro but they didn't sell. We wanted big gas guzzling dinosaurs and wouldn't take anything else. So what did they do...discontinue them becuase no one wanted them. Fast forward a few years and gas hit $4 and $5 and everyone blames the car companies for not offering a small economical car. Lets stop pointing fingers, the car companies were building what we wanted, plain and simple.
