My Bamboo Pen tablet will register when I draw, but won't register the location of the pen when it is near it.?

I've had my Bamboo pen tablet for a little over two months, and it's worked like a dream until today. It will register the location of the pen until I put it to the tablet, and will draw when the pen tip is touching--but I have to pull away very dramatically from the tablet in order to get the location of the pen again. I use the tablet on two computers, both of which are running Ubuntu, and on the desktop, it still works the way it is intended. However, on my netbook, it has recently started doing this, and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Yes, I think it is probably because the pen tip has become dull, if you use it alot this happens, all you have to do is change the plastic nib.

I don't know how efficient a Bamboo pen is. Do you get splinters from it? I like to use traditional ballpoint pens, it's plastic, easier to use and comes with a hand clip tip you can clip onto anything. I clip it on my shirt when I'm out of my desk.
