Is emo a a fasion/music style, or a whole lifestyle?

I don't really get what emo is. I know its short for emotional, and they look kinda like goths except with bright colourful bits in their hair. Also is the style at all inpired by the japanese, because quite a lot of emos seem to recreate a japanese'esque appearence by making their skin very fair with makeup and dying their hair black/dark brown and having spikey Manga style hairstyles, however this could be a coincidence. Are they all into cutting themself, or is that just some of them? And are there any emos over the age of about 25, because they mainly seem like teenagers who are obssesed with being 'different', but then become complete sheep for this 'emo' movement and not very 'different' at all. Only a teenager would be naive enough to think that made them cool and different. What do you people think, im confused by all this emo stuff.

Above answer ^ is ridiculous! Don't listen to that twelve-year-old, LOL

Emo is just a stupid trend everyone follows. Seriously, now that high school started everyone I knew turned "emo" and they try so hard to be something they're clearly not. Because of this trend, everyone thinks being/acting depressed is cool when it's not. It really pisses me off because they don't know what it feels like to have depression (I have it).

Source(s): btw, don't compare Japanese fashion to emo ... EVER. Japanese fashion > emo.

Emo is actually a genre of music called Emotive Hardcore. I don't actually know where all this bull about it meaning "emotional" came from - EVERYONE is emotional.

I do understand what you mean about seeing a Harajuku influence in some of this Emo/Scene fashion - I think a lot of it IS inspired by street wear in Japan and other places.

Going via call, you will assume As I Lay dying to be some crappy emo band, yet they rock! Oh and that i believe you approximately BMTH, they're surely a exceptionally good band in spite of their questionable apparence.
