Heavy bag heavy enough?
Ok, so I just saved up enough to buy a 55 lb heavy bag, I'm 14.
I'm just starting MMA and BJJ(I do realize there is no punching in BJJ)
Is it heavy enough to increase my punching power?
It's an Everlast btw, so its good.
And I have some bag gloves, I'm gonna get some hand wraps and gel knuckle guards tomorrow.
Anything else?
Thanks--
Kaleb.

55 isn't heavy. 80 and above is heavy. Never get a bag heavier than 100lbs, its just stupid to get one that heavy.
55lbs is just good enough for you to train on.

Nooo. the biggest risk is which you wreck your wrist, and hand wraps grant next to no wrist stability. Get a pair of heavy bag gloves, that are surely extraordinarily low priced. The kunckles arent the subject

once you have been training for awhile you need a heavier bag for two reasons: 1. you will be hitting harder and 2. because when you do combos, a lighter bag will fly around too much making combos hard. at my school ours is about 120lbs and i find that is good for hand combos, but not heavy enough for kick combos, because it swings way too much and when you hit it while its swinging hard then it starts spinning really fast and its really a pain in the butt.

That is a fine weight. Try not to get too caught up in these details and just get to training!
