I'm having OCD problems...Please help!?
I'm in high school, and have been battling different forms of OCD ever since I was a little kid. I am SICK of it. It varies from having to turn on lights a certain way to only taking one set of stairs, etc., and lately I've been having HOCD (which means I think I'm a lesbian when I am totally, completely not. I'm actually like the most boy-crazy person I know.) Please, PLEASE, does anyone know of anything that has helped? Honestly, I'd prefer that it wasn't medicine, because I don't think that actually fixes the problem. OCD has been ruining my life for too long and I need to do something about it. Please help!

I have OCD too. My OCD obsessions are the fear of one day becoming a psychotic serial killer, fear of vomiting (emetophobia), and you guessed it: HOCD. I do weird compulsions (things such as your ways of turning on lights and things) to somehow "prevent" my biggest fears from coming true. I actually am bisexual, which makes my HOCD worse, but I know I'm way more into guys than girls so I'm not a lesbian. Here are some things that might help with your HOCD and compulsions.
Compulsions:
- start decreasing your compulsions one step at a time, such as making it your goal to touch something a smaller number of time, or vowing to turn the lights on a different way at least one a day, gradually increasing the number of times you stop the compulsion per day. quitting cold turkey won't work.
- reason with yourself. will these compulsions ACTUALLY change something? do they change anything for other people with OCD? (psst..the answer is no)
HOCD:
- tell yourself out loud "are you that stupid? remember that huge crush you had on [insert name here]? and remember how hot you thought [insert name here] was? don't be rediculous, you're clearly straight! YOU LOVE PENIS." by the way, you aren't stupid or rediculous, it just helps to rash on yourself to set your mind straight
- list all the things you love about your crush, or if you dont have one, list all the things you love about boys in general. then list the things you love about girls. the list for girls will turn out as you loving them as friends, and the boys list will be more of an attraction thing.
- picture yourself in a relationship with a girl. then picture yourself in a relationship with a guy. which did you like better?
- you just said it yourself in the question, you definitely arent a lesbian, and lesbians will know their sexuality
-make a list of all the "straight" things you love to do (boy hunting with friends, getting your nails done, doing hair, putting on makeup), if you dont do that stuff, it still doesnt mean youre a lesbian, although you said youre boy-obsessed so i assume you do boy-hunt like the best of us
- find a crush. this is a last resort because you dont want to force yourself to like somebody, but itt really does help to find a guy you like to lean on and use to reassure yourself that you ideed, are a penis lover.
Before i end this enormous answer, i just want to say that there is NOTHING wrong with being a lesbian, and i have nothing against them, but for people like us the idea of becoming one is scary, and we cant really explain it. i really hope your OCD gets better, because its a tough thing to live with. if you need to talk to someone that understands, you can contact me on yahoo anytime. good luck and hope i helped!

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will work miracles! I KNOW from experience that anyone that truly wants to get better will benefit strongly from this. If you don't know what that is watch the shows "Obsessed" and "The OCD Project", they are a great example of how CBT can greatly help and treat OCD. You are NOT alone and my twin sister has suffered extremely from this terrible condition. She fights her battle with OCD every single day. If you do want add medication it could most definitely help lots along with the therapy, but I am convinced that you must have therapy combined with the medication to truly get better. Although there is no cure there is a treatment and you can live a happy, normal, OCD free life if you do the work to get there. I promise you it IS possible, and you CAN do it!! No matter how bad you think your OCD is, there are so many people out there struggling just like you are. Just be honest with yourself and others about all of your OCD thoughts, and the truth will set you free. If you would like to read about my sister, Katie's, struggles with ocd go to her blog at www.katiebugkellar.com

I have OCD too. So I understand how completely frustrating it can be. I feel for you and wish I could help with any ideas. It drives me so insane sometimes. I focus on things that make me happy and get my mind off of it. One thing is that it won't be a temporary fix nor will medicine. I have read that Cognitive Behavorial Therapy would be the best permanent fix. My doctor prescribed medicine for me but I feel the same way. I just don't feel like medicine could work permanently and could even make it worse. You never know there are several options and for sure get a counselor or therapist that will help a lot. I wish you luck and don't give up. Never forget you are not your OCD it's just something you happen to have. Good luck =))

I was diagnosed with a bad case of OCD by a psychatrist and used to take medication for it. I am a severe hypochondriac and germaphobe. I douse my hands in hand sanitizer in every classroom before I leave, especially if I touched the desk. I worry about things that a normal person wouldn't. I, too, hate it and I'm sick of living like this. I stopped taking medication for that exact reason because it wasn't helping. I would strongly suggest talking to a psychatrist and maybe getting a stronger medication.

i imagine to a particular volume that's actual. that's what makes each and every human being diverse. Beside my major OCD(trictillomania) I certainly ought to element the position the lavatory tissue should be a particular way on the roller or after I walk by trash on the sidewalk I certainly ought to %. it up and placed it contained in the trash. I always %. it up with something except my hand, although. lol

i have OCD too. This is how i got over it:
i had the urge to pick up a wrapper because it was lonely on the floor.
Then i stopped myself and went into another room and turned the tv on.
At first i was scared that the poor wrapper was lonely but eventually i stopped caring and now i barley have any traces of OCD left in me,
Dont worry meds dont have to be an option. I tried to help myself because its embarrassing to have ocd, which is why i stopped myself from touching things orm oving them, normal people dont, so why should we?
