harry potter question...?
Hey everyone! ok im reading the harry potter series, and i always thought that if u catch the golden snitch, you automatically win....but in the 4th book, wen the weasly bros are betting on the world cup, they say "ireland will win, but krum (from the opposite team) will catch the snitch. how ???? im soo confused! thankyou so much

well, you catch the snitch and the game is over and the team who caught it gets 100 points, but if the other team still has more points than them, the other team wins

Ireland-100 points
France-250 points
Ireland catches the snitch earning them 100 points and automatically ending the game
Ireland-200
France-250
since France still has more points, they win.

Catching the snitch does not guarantee a win - it adds 150 points to the total of the team's score.
So, for example, let's say Slytherin is playing Gryffindor. Slytherin is losing 10-170, and their seeker catches the snitch, ending the game. 150 points is added to their score, so now the score is 160-170. Gryffindor still has more points, so they will end up winning the game.
As you can see, this even only happens if the team who catches the snitch is losing by more than one hundred and fifty points, so it's usually a rare occasion. The team who catches the snitch usually wins, though. That's why Bagman was so surprised when Fred and George said that ireland will win but krum will get the snitch.

Agreed. The snitch worth 150 points. But if u catch it and the other team has more points.. But u almost always win. Cause the 150 points its earned more with points.. So if u have 50 points and the other has 30 and u catch the snitch u will have 200 points

Ireland will get more points there forth when Krum gets the Snitch they'll be behind in points making Ireland win!

The snitch is worth 150 points, so whichever team catches it usually wins, but not always. If the other team has scored more with the quaffle, that team can win.
