Which is better and safer? using a gfi breaker or using gfi outlets for a kitchen island?

Update:

This is for new construction. They used gfi outlets for the kitchen but later they realized they forgot to add the receptables in the island. After adding them, they didn't pass the electrical inspection because they only added regular outlets on the island and not gfi. So instead of changing the outlets on the island to gfi they are now using a tandem breaker for my freezer so they can add a gfi breaker for the island instead. I was concerned if this was the best way to do this or if I should tell them I want them to have the gfi receptables instead. I want the safest and best choice. Thanks for any advice. :)

Either a GFI breaker or GFI receptacle is safe. The advantage with the receptacle is you can use a regular 120 single pole breaker. The disadvantage the receptacle takes up alot of room in the wall box,and of course you would need GFI plates. If this is new work and you are just doing the wiring for a new home.I would use a GFI breaker. Old work I would use The GFI receptacle. What ever is more convenient make sure you use a breaker or the receptacle that is rated for 20 amps. Be safe

Make sure the freezer in not on the gfci breaker if it is there will be a issue with it tripping it. Any gfci circuit needs to be dedicated to those outlets only and not tied into anything else. I would make them put the gfci outlets in this way you know what you have instead of guessing it may work.

Either is fine but if the circuit to the island is sharing a neutral with another circuit, a GFCI breaker will not work. You'll have to install GFCI receptacles or another neutral.

    Both the same!

Outlet may be cheaper depending on the breaker panel.

If they are close in price I would use the breaker.

DUHHHHH!!!! IF you have a outlet anywhere near water you need a GFI plug. That plug will protect You as well as your Appliance that is being used. I have a very strong feeling that all states require that plug.

The breaker will protect everything on that circuit.
