Why is an isp ( Internet service provider ) when?

They can't handle the customers they have right now. I pay 55 dollars for high speed 1 megabyte Internet that isn't even 1 megabyte it's always half that or a little more. And the only time I can game online is in the middle of the night because there bandwith is so bad. There my only option but is there anyway I could make then step up there game? Because I have asked them why they don't increase there bandwith and straight from the manager was that if they increase there bandwith it will cut into there profits.

    1 MB is the burstable speed.

    When you download a file, it probably downloads at 1MB/s then drops..

    It helps Youtube videos buffer fast, so you can watch them instantly.

    Hence why download managers download in 'parts', so that bursted speed can come out and just burst everything. They trick the ISP, thinking it's different downloads, but it really is not.

    In the night, you can game?

    You sound like you have Cable.

    In the afternoon, everyone is watching cable TV. So, that makes it slower for you.

    If they increase, they will oversell like Verizon did with their data. It only took them 2 months to get rid of unlimited data.. AT&T took like 3 years. Go AT&T!

    But, if they pay 50$ for 2GB of data, and you have a plan for unlimited data, for 50$. Think about that.

    You download 4GB.. for $50 you pay Verizon.

    WELL, they are paying $50 for 2GB. So, they paid $100 for 4GB, while you paid them $50 for 4GB.

    So, that extra $50 Verizon had to use, came from their profits.

    You need a new ISP man. $55 for 1mb/s is ridiculous. I pay $60 or $65 and get 30mb/s. Also, 1mb/s is no longer even considered fast. You need to find at least 10-12 mb/s service.

    To get better bandwidth you probably have to pay more ;_;

    ISPs never give the advertised amount of bandwidth
