every time I open a photo in Photosh0p CreativeSuite5, all I get is a gray/white checkerboard?

Can anyone tell me how to get my picture to show up? It never shows the picture, just goes right to the checkerboard.

The "checkerboard" represents the transparency of an image in relation to an alpha channel. If you are attempting to open an existing photo, the file extension may be a factor. Check to see what the file extension is (.JPG; .TIFF; .PSD, etc.). You can select the file name and change the file extension. Try to change it to .jpg and then right click on the image and select :open with" from the drop-down menu. Select Photoshop and see if it works. If it opens with the "checkerboard" then deselect the alpha channel and make sure you have the background layer set to visible.
