SSD or HDD in laptop?
I'm looking for a new laptop with a new i7 processor. Should I get a slower 2.0Ghz processor and 256Gb SSD or a faster 2.3Ghz i7 and 500Gb HDD (5400rpm). Assume the cost is similar. What would you choose and why?
Would also like to know if you have any experience with SSDs. Thanks

SSDs, in my experience, are a waste of money. Once you get over the fast boot times, you realize that you paid so much just to have your computer boot up a bit faster. The application launch times do improve as well, but again, it's negligible. I would say get the processor. The proc will be a more noticeable boost in terms of speed. On a laptop I would recommend an SSD though, because of their reduced heat.

The SSD will run somewhat slower yet would be extra solid. in case you drop your actual and the HDD fails, probability is the SSD will shop going, counting on the longevity of something of the build. HP has a tendency to be a mild build. Doing this on an ASUS may well be a no-brainer - upload a larger SSD *and* a larger SATA HDD. With an HP, i might recommend heavily checking the specs to make certain a 7200rpm HDD won't burn out something of the gadget (which cpu, bus, velocity, etc.). unquestionably you ought to use RAID; it somewhat is a somewhat costly yet particularly exciting project in case you have some drives/pc's to plug into it. Why no longer in simple terms a larger HDD? There are 650's obtainable now. Oh, ultimate, HP machines could no longer help that. i might use RAID if I had some terabytes of archives and mandatory to extra valuable shield that archives. i might additionally recommend SATA over ATA HDD's. WD in simple terms launched the 1st 2 TBpersistent. Reportedly, Intel's new pc RAID is proper for 7200rpm drives as long because of the fact the pc has the infrastructure to help that. i'm undecided approximately HP. i like HP, in simple terms undecided approximately it. i'm specific that ASUS is amazingly good at squeezing huge issues right into a small footprint.
