Access Restrictions on my Linksys WRT54GS?

I have a Linksys WRT54GS, version 5, and under the Access Restrictions tab, I see that you can set ping as a blocked service. But when I do that, pings are not blocked on my LAN. What is the purpose of setting ping as a blocked service? That does not have anything to do with the pings going to the Internet port, since the box that says "Block anonymous Internet requests" blocks those pings.

NO really sensible site exposes to ping on the Internet unless they need to offer it for some reason. A ping attack on a router can practically stop it functioning if it is intensive enough.
