Try alternate headphones to determine that the problem is not attributable to the headphones themselves. Check to ensure that no lint or foreign material has collected in the audio jack, (which is quite common). If this is the case, remove it with the plastic part of a cotton bud.Take a small screwdriver and open the case.Open it extremely slowly and do not touch the copper wire, as ripping out the copper wire will eliminate your hold function as well as eliminating all sound from your iPod.. When you first open the iPod, you'll notice little clear strings. This is glue. It is safe to move these out of the way.Use something small with the iPod case open, and push the little silver box at the top right First, push it in, then slowly push it to the left and to the right until you hear sound.5Apply force slowly once you've found the direction to go. Keep applying force until the jack works without excess pressure. Then close the case and your done.
hope this works out. Good luck:)

If it happened recently, put it in a bag of rice and seal it. Keep it there for about a day, checking on it every once in a while. The rice absorbs the water out of the iPod. I've done this for my iTouch as well as my cell phone. And it has always worked for me. I guess it depends on how long its been, but it never hurts to try!! Good Luck!

If it just happened a few seconds ago put it in the middle of a bowl of rice for a while. Itll get the water out.

try putting it in a bowl of rice. I've done that with my phone. if that doesn't work, find out if your warranty is still active. they would replace it free of charge.
