Windows Vista x32 to Windows 7 x64 clean install problem?
OK so I'm trying to install Windows 7 x64 Professional on a machine running Windows Vista x32 Home Premium. I know for a fact that the machine is 64 bit compatible, and yes I know that I will have to perform a clean install not an upgrade. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to get the machine to "boot into" the Windows 7 installation. The method I have been trying is to start the machine, hit F12 when prompted to get to the boot menu, and then selecting the DVD drive. However the machine just says that it cannot boot from the DVD drive and asks me to select an alternative boot drive. Full disclosure, I burned the install disc myself, by mounting the .iso in daemon tools and then copying the files over to a blank DVD. I have done this a few other times when doing a clean install to Windows 7 so I know the method works but who knows it could have something to do with it. Any suggestions?
Edit: After some additional testing I determined that for whatever reason the machine did not like how the DVD was set up, which is curious because when I popped the DVD into a different machine it recognized it just fine. Burned another disc using a different method and now the machine recognizes it. Thanks for the help :)

You could try to format the hard drive, then install Windows 7.

maybe you should replace the dvd drive - I had one that stopped reading dvds at three weeks of age - but worked fine for everything else
