Digital camera with good video recording?

I'm heading overseas in a few months and am wanting to get a new digital camera. I currently have a compact sony cybershot dsc-t20 but it's about 4 years old and the video quality is not great. While I'm away i'm planning on using the video function a lot but will also be taking still photos. So i'm looking for a camera that has good resolution and pixels, high optical and digital zoom and perhaps HD movie setting. I wondering whether I would be best with a still digital camera that shoots video or a camcorder that shoots still? Any advice? What models would you suggest best suit my requirements?

Thanks in advance :)

My suggestion is Canon PowerShot SD4000IS

With PowerShot SD4000 IS Digital ELPH camera you can record movies in 720p (1280 x 720) high definition with high quality stereo sound.

Some of Canon PowerShot SD4000IS features:-

    1. Slim stainless steel body

    2. 10MP backlit CMOS sensor

    3. 3.8x zoom lens with f/2 maximum aperture, and 28-105mm focal length

    4. Canon HS System for taking clear pictures with reduced noise levels in low light and high speed modes

    5. 240 frames per second Super Slow Motion Movie mode

    6. High-speed Burst mode with 8.4 shots/sec (2.5MP) / 3.6 shots/sec (10MP)

    7. Optical Image Stabilizer (IS)

    8. Smart Auto and Smart Flash Exposure flash modes

9.720p HD movie capture with optical zoom and stereo sound

    10. HDMI port

    11. Multiple shooting and shutter modes: P, Av and Tv modes, Low Light, Fish-eye, Miniature Effect, Smart Shutter with Smile, Wink Self-Timer, FaceSelf-Time

High optical zoom and HD movie - Canon SX30 or Panasonic FZ100. I wouldn't care about digital zoom, though. It's a gimmick.
