How do I get the smell of smoke out of my new cat?
I just got a cat from someone who passed away that smoked.

Honestly i would just leave it alone..after a few days the cat will have cleaned itself enough to get rid of the smell.
To bathe the cat would only freak it out and i'm sure the cat is nervous enough being in a new home.

I grew up in a house with a smoking parent, and that i understand how gross your outfits can get... regrettably, there is not any tremendous thanks to stay away from it, short of storing your outfits outdoors. in case your position has a basement, you need to attempt letting your outfits carry down there when you wash them. I continually chanced on that smoke has a tendency to upward push via the domicile, so the basement might want to be slightly cleanser than everywhere else (esp. in case your father and mom do maximum of their smoking on the substantial floor). also, at the same time as the elements is tremendous, keep your domicile windows open as a lot as conceivable and enable your outfits get a shocking sort of sparkling air. As a very last hotel, attempt throwing your outfits into the dryer with a bounce sheet for a jiffy, prior to you bypass out. i'd stay away from utilising Fe-breeze in many circumstances; all those chemical compounds can not be solid for you, and really you would merely be protecting the smell briefly.

or dawn soap, since you just got the cat and I wouldn't expect you to have bathing supplies. Hold it by the scruff and use the tub and a large cup. Wear a dish glove on your other hand if you have one, just in case that cat is good at scratching when being suspended by the scruff.
The dryer sheet idea seems good, but I can't imagine that being safe for the cat.
If anything, just hose the cat down and she/he will bathe itself and get most of the smell out.

I think you should call the cat smokey. Give the cat a bath with appropriate shampoo. Just don't get water in the ears.
...and I know this is weird, but lemon gets smells out pretty well, if you could find a way to incorporate it. =]

Take a towel and dampen it in a pan of water mixed with mild pet shampoo and rub cat down. have a second towel ready to dry cat off. If an adult cat, may be too hard to bathe, so this is another option. If still young, may be able to start bathing it - use bathtub, wrap towel or sheet around the faucet so it will have something to hold on to, hold cat by scruff of neck with one hand and use cup or small bowl to gently wet it down. BIT TIP: probably calls for 2 people for this project for a couple of times.
ALSO,clip cat's claws before you begin. Do back claws first. Wrap cat snugly in big enough towel so it can't back out, and take one foot out at a time. Remember that cats get out of things by backing out so wrap back end firmly but in such a way that you can easily work with one foot at a time. If cat is snug should not have to worry about being bitten. Also, might want to think about having a lightweight scarf or pillow case to cover cat's head if you think it will try to bite you.
You did not say how old you think the cat is. I start bathing kittens at a young age and it makes it easier for when they get older. Of course I have some who never like it but they deal with it.
I dry cats with blow dryer on low. Most recently with new cats, I found that if I put them in cat carrier and place blow dryer on floor in front and check often on them - it works well. Some will fight like crazy at first but they eventually settle down. Cats and dogs, and especially puppies and kitens, are subject to get chilled when they are wet and need to be dried quickly. You can almost towel dry them completely but for some reasons, it seems to take the tails a longer time.

i know giving it a bath would be difficult especially if it has claws, but you could try petting it with a wet/damp wash cloth, use a dryer sheet, or just let it be, ive never had to deal with this problem but im sure that after a while the smell will go away as the cat licks itself

I'd say give it a bath, but anyone who's owned a cat knows how hard it can be. Take a dryer sheet and run it through its fur.

Oh for dog's sake, just leave the cat ALONE and let any stink/stank filter out on its own. Geeze.
