Are we at war with Libya? What does a No Fly Zone mean to us?
Serious answers only please.
With all the recent fighting going on in Libya. I hear on TV that things are really heating up. I understand that we (The United States) are stepping up the plate along with the rest of the United Nations and are enforcing a no fly zone. My question to you is what is a no fly zone? Does this meant that Libya can not fly military planes over the country? Does it mean that other countries can not fly over Libya? What does it mean, and what happens if they violate it?
How close are we to "Putting boots on the ground" and maybe invading Libya?
Have they violated the cease fire?
How close to war are we?
Give me some information, because I hear different things on the television but I'm not sure if I understand it all, and I am afraid that people I talk to can sometimes blow things out of proportion.
Thank You

slow down bucko ! america isn't part of the bombing party, only france, canada and the UK ! there has been no discussion of deploying troops from anywhere. we are just destroying airstrips and bombers to thwart the qaddafi regimes bombing civilians ! if we do send troops it will be on a humanitarian mission to restore order only if the rebellion succeeds !! JOEY the french shot down a libyan fighter jet several hours ago, as witnessed by BBC journalists, they have been flying reconnaissance all night to thwart the qaddafi regimes plans to bomb benghazi into oblivion ! where have you been ? also Britain, canada and france are scheduled to bomb libyan airstrips and warplanes this afternoon. so that declaration of grounding the libyan air force was a libyan LIE !

Well Libya just shut down it's airspace a day ago. So right now they aren't letting anyone fly in their airspace. The UN, has established the right to basically do anything to protect innocent Libyans. This could include a no-fly-zone. Right now one is not in effect. If it is implemented it will mean that no one other than friendly's can fly in the airspace. This doesn't mean that aircraft are in the sky 24/7 flying circles though. Hours are established, usually classified, that flying operations will be conducted. This doesn't mean that they can't scramble aircraft at a moments notice though.
