Time is our perception of events in the past and events not yet occurring. We have found and use time to measure other constants in the universe such as the speed of light, which allows us to measure distance. Very complex theories such as time dilation have evolved out of perception of time and allow us to measure and observe a multitude of events in space and sub-atomically.It is our only tool to measure the world around us in terms of reflection and planning. Without our ability to measure time we would be just useless as a dog or bird. Time permanence is extremely important to our ability to plan and create. Without a concept of time our memories, therefore our learning ability also suffers.

Yes time is substance; it is the only thing that is substance. How bout an example to illustrate my point

Most of the comments about time used the word "event". Rightfully so. But it is necessary, to understand time, that event be defined with more precision. An event is always three events, never one!

Why is that? Well if you have two events, then there is no way to distinguish b/t them. That is to say, 2 is 1, 1 is non, and 3 is 1. Please explain I don't understand what your saying? Ok I will!

    EXAMPLE

describe the distance between a and b from the perspective of a or b.

    Can't do it right!!! good.

Explain the distance between a and b and c.

Thats easy, the distance between a and b is the distance between b and c. Now we have a concrete definition of the distances. Well a,b,c are events. ironically, but without coincidence, when people speak of time they say Past, Present, and future. ALSO, life is measured as "born", "live", "Die". Events are measured as "didn't occur yet", "occurring", "not occurring anymore!" Oh I can do this all day! Have a choice, didn't know there was a choice to be had, and did not have a choice.

3, always three! The lowest common denominator of human beings......... mom, dad, and you! A bit more fun, sperm, egg, and the subsequent first new entity formed being the combination and hybridizing of the two which then leads to the 3rd completely unique new cell.

Why did you think a triangle was so affluent!

So you might have a loose idea about what and event is now and possibly a further understanding of what time is. Maybe. xoxox

Time is not a substance. Time is a measure of the space between certain events, including earth rotation, earth's orbit of the sun, etc. We use Months, days, years to measure these events, and use these measures to record such events, and give a placeholder to the event. Such as "a billion years ago when the dinosaurs walked the earth". The idea and theory of time is completely synthetic, man made.

Time is also a dimension, like the three dimensions of space... except that time is a dimension that contains different states or versions of all things in the three dimensions of space. If you could see the entire dimension of time at once, you would see all the states that something has or will exist in all at once. A baby would look like an infinite number of people, except each person is actually that baby at a different state in its existence. The distance between these states is measured as seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades... what we collectively call time.

Time seems both to be a concept and an actual component of the Universe. Time is basically the passage of existence, sequences of events and the space between them. It is our perception of events. In theory, it is woven into the "fabric" of the Universe along with space, and isn't rigid, but can work in different ways.

Time is the PAST, PRESENT and the FUTURE.

It is the concept of sequencing events using the Present as the base-point.

Time is natures way of keeping everything from happening all at once.

as said by ALBERT EINSTEIN time is a flowing river which never stops or turns back but it may have whirlpools or obstacles in it.
