How do I stop itunes from syncing everytime i connect my ipod to my pc?

Question

Let's say there are some pictures that I want to keep on my ipod. Just my ipod and not my pc. So i sync the pictures in my ipod and delete them from my computer. The next time I connect my ipod to my compter, itunes deletes the pictures from my ipod because it syncs everytime I connect it. It's SOOOO annoying.
Is there any other program that I can use to sync my ipod? Something that let's you choose pictures and songs that you want to sync instead of syncing your whole library EVERYTIME you connect your ipod? 
I HATE ITUNES! aghhhhh. Apple's service is very bad...like very very bad!

In iTunes, go to Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.

You can do everything manually, when you plug in your iPod and it connects to itunes click Manually manage songs... something like that, and click apply. It will no longer sync your entire library.

ok when you connect your ipod/iphone to itunes...click on the ipod link on the left...it should have three or four squares that you can check on and off...uncheck the little square thats says"sync ipod when connected" or something like that...hope this helped
