Should the government fund research for alternative fuel?

The short answer to your query is No, government has absolutely no business spending taxpayer dollars on alternative fuel research (or any other kind of research for that matter). In my opinion, this should be done with private dollars alone.

And then I read your caveat, "I have chosen to be pro (for) this debate...". That creates a dilemma for me since you asked an honest question. I suppose (if I were pro) I would look at the government's previous track record in funding other types of research (stem cell, university grants for research, agriculture) and make the argument that there is precedence and that alternative fuel sources are a worthy goal for Americans to fund. I agree with the above Wind power & Solar power are pretty much free and work just as well. I think the whole world should run off nothing but Wind and Solar. Its eco friendly and saves $$$$ oh and we cant run out :)
