I had this issue with my son as well. If she is formula fed, it could be the added iron. Talk to her doctor to make sure there is no other problem. If she continues to have the problem, you could try warm prune juice. They make it for babies or you can dilute regular prune juice. If the constipation is still present, then you can talk to the doctor about miralax. It is non habit forming, It basically just adds moisture to the bowel to keep the poo soft and pliable. If she is going ok, but it seems just a bit hard or dry, then the juice will probably help. If she can not go well, or does not seem to be relieved from pooping, then I would check with the doctor and ask about the miralax. Some docs will say that as long as they go once or twice a week they are ok..I just dont agree. How would we feel if we pooped once a week. If you think there is a problem, get her checked. Always follow your instinct.

can I guess that you're giving rice pablum?

Rice cereal is very constipating. Try to switch to oatmeal.

Also try giving 1`x a day about 3-4 oz of prune juice in a bottle, but diluted 1:1 with water.

Dont carry on with this remedy though, for ever. Just for a few days, until situation is resolved. It has the same chemical constituents as laxatives, albeit naturally and its not good to continuously stimulate the bowels like that.

Give her cooled boiled water. About an ounze a day will do just fine. It helps to soften the stools. My sister's baby suffered with constipation, and the mid-wife/health visitor advised giving 1-2 ounzes of water a day. It really helps.

    Hope this helps, x

Is she already taking baby food?

My son is on stage 1 baby foods and he sometimes gets a bit constipated. I give him 2 ounces of juice mixed with 2 ounces of baby water or I feed him prunes.

Talk to your doctor about a change in formula if she's bottle fed. If she's breastfed, it's unlikely she's not constipated. If she's on solids, stop them for now.

Try giving her water, it will help. Find a baby water brand and give her a few sips from time to time (not more than 100ml daily) and it should help soften things up.
