Is it to early (March 23) To Put Plants Out Into A Unheated Greenhouse?

I live in the North West of England and this is the first time I have planted bedding seeds. They are all in either seed trays or small pots. When is it ok to put them out.

i think most serious gardeners would say yes however i have set all my seeds away and they are all in my unheated green house i just make sure they have plastic lids over the trays or plastic sheets then i put garden fleece over to help keep any frost off them. through the day when it is warm i remove the fleece then replace at night i have used this method for the last 20 years

So from what I think you're asking you planted seeds, which have already turned into PLANTS...yes?

Because if you're just now putting in SEEDS, for sure it's fine to get started!

I don't know what your latitude is where you live...but for sure you can go onto a website that shows the last freeze dates for your general area. I would say that MOST plants you put out now are going to be fine. Since you didn't specify what you're growing that's a bit of a problem...I would think that most vegetables are okay. Some that are more tender, say tomatoes, for example are ones to worry about. Also the vining type plants like melons or cucumbers can succumb to frost. But lots of things like spinach, lettuce, carrots and all of your root vegetable types are gonna be fine.

Sorry to not be more specific.

If you are still having hard freezes, like down into the 20''s WAIT on the sensitive ones. But remember this...even an unheated greenhouse it's going to protect them from mist falling on them and then freezing... so if it's only in the 30-32 degree outside you should be just fine.

Get yourself one of those thermometers that stores the high and low temperatures or race out there the 1st thing when you wake up and see what the temperature is inside ...that should make it a lot easier to decide.

EDIT: I'm going to insert a hardiness zone map for UK that I just found. See the link below. It looks like you're gonna be in Zone 7 or 8. I live in mountainous Arizona and it's Zone 7 where I live...which is cooler than Zone 8. I am getting ready to start setting out plants in MY unheated greenhouse...except for the tomatoes, like I said. Another thing you can do is if a hard freeze is expected you can put a lit bed sheet or blanket over the plants youve set out. That gives them a greenhouse inside of a greenhouse and will keep them safe for sure.

    Happy gardening!

EDIT: Don't molly coddle 'em?? I'll have to remember that one! I'm sure I can figure how to fit it into a conversation SOMEHOW! LOL!
