That debate has been going on for decades, they can't even agree on what a muscle car is, big car, intermediate, pony car, big block or high performance small block..
I have to agree about the Mustangs being a all time favorite, the early HiPo's, and CobraJets, but they are expensive, so..
Check out the Buick GS and Ford Fairlanes for affordability..
Oh and my favorites are the Trans Am cars, all of them, not just Pontiacs!

Depends on how much money you have. Any Dodge or Plymouth muscle cars are trading at high dollars right now. The 1970 Chevelle SS is also a high dollar car especially those with a 454. The 1970 GTO is the most affordable of these options, as the 1964-1969 ‘goat’ is the most sought models. By the way the Charger 500 did not appear until 1969. After that it is nothing more than a trim option.

There's a reason why the Mustang has been the only American muscle car continuously in production. Camaros, GTOs and Chevelles all suffer from GM syndrome; Chargers are far too heavy and cumbersome as are Challengers.
The Mustang is easily the best muscle car out there.
EDIT: Just make sure you look at an original Mustang (1964-1973) or a modern fifth generation Mustang (2005-Present). With the exception of the 1994-2004 Mustang, the others are rubbish.

That depends on what brand you like when i was growing up i always wanted a Mopar a 1970 Cuda with a 440 sixpack would have been great a roadrunner of same year with that engine would have been another good choice since roadrunners were made in larger quantities than those others you can probably find one for less. This is only my preferences.

"Best" for what?
0-60 time? 1/4 mile time? Shortest braking distance? Largest engine? Largest trunk? Biggest speedometer?
