What is the truth about Muhammad?
Traditional sources dictate that Aisha (his second wife) was six or seven years old when betrothed to Muhammad but the marriage was not consummated until she was nine or ten years old.
Surly this can't be true, can it?

Muslims are people who follow the teaching of the Quran and the Prophet.
If it is true then, most Muslims would be following the Sunnah (the deeds of the Prophet Muhammad) by marrying underage girls. Of course, this did not happened.
Even the Prophet exercised unusual restraint, he was like a king then, he could have as many young girls too, the fact that he did not, is in itself proof to such allegations wrong.
As for the narrations of the Hadiths, there are also others (25 nos in total) that stated her age. Major Muslims scholars had accepted the age of 16 and 19 respectively. Apparently, only one hadith had left out the number 10 , omitted by Hisham who narrated the hadith when he was 70 then or loss in transmissions.

There are contradictory hadiths. Some say 9, others say 16, some 19 etc. What we can say is this, at that time this was not unheard of. People died very early, and many people had this kind of marriage. In fact, she was already going to marry someone else but they did not go through with it. What is important is that Aisha (ra) was not hurt at all, she was happy, and she loved the Prophet (saws) up until her last breath :)

Thai law allows arranged marriage of minors by parents and 2001 Thai girl aged 9 gave birth. Obviously you would have nothing at all against this or so many cases of this that are very recent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_youngest_birt...
Nor will you go on about real phidophiles and abuse cases at least for this you would be doing something good but not for spreading lies, prejudice
Would it be considered hypocrisy that they keeps mentioning prophet Muhammad when Mary had a child at 12. Aisha was his best friend's daughter and also the first ruler after the prophet. The prophet doesn't seem to be that interested in marrying Aisha as when his wife died and a lady came to him suggesting he should marry again and mentioned Aisha the young girl and an elderly lady older than the prophet but for Aisha the prophet said she's too young she's still a little girl but the lady said he can marry and wait (though Aisha was already engaged to someone before the prophet though the engagment was broken off). Also he had a dream that the angel brought Aisha for her. So for all these reasons he married her anyway (and also he married the elderly lady) but he left Aisha at her father's house.
This is a marriage that was recommended by his people, approved by her father and accpeted by her and the society. So when you don't have a problem with the current pre-teen promiscuous girls who get pregnant and their partners who abonden them and single parent teens why are you critisizing a marriage fully legitimate - are you saying it was abuse when it was anyting but. Anyway girls mature at different stages and that time they married off some girls young (she was engaged to someone else befroe the prophet) and actually even in this age they marry off girls and boys younger than12. Most parents wont' allow such age gap or to marry this young but situations are different as at that time it was approved.
This is from a question I answered before -
Do you mean Virgin Mary who Christian scholars believe was no more that 12 when she had Jesus. Or do you mean Aisha who went on to become a great scholar in Islam.
Aisha was engaged to someone else before she married the prophet but it was broken off because she was Muslim. The prophet married his first wife Kadija who was 40 when he was 25 and all his surviving children are with her. Only when she died around 60 at the recommendation/proposals of others he married an elderly lady and Aisha but the marriage to Aisha wasn't consummated at the time as he left her at her father's house for few years and her father had to remind him to take his wife with him. All his wives except for Aisha were either widows or divorce es. Also his enemies who were greater enemies of Islam than the enemies today never criticized him on his marriage to Aisha as it was normal. Islam by the way didn't introduce polygamy. It limited polygamy to 4 wives and gave rights to women and rights within marriage. Before you could marry anyone any amounts give no rights and discard them. No other religion limits polygamy. Islam gave women rights to inherit, divorce among other things - even in Europe women didn't have right to inherit or divorce until only few years ago!! Don't forget other prophets like King Solomon had many wives too but the reason prophet Muhammad had many wives was not because he liked it but because of political and other reasons like giving honor and respect to them when he heard about their situations and his followers immediately after him or during his time married divorced and widowed women so that they can look after them,

Who knows?
I'd be more interested to know if, when it supposedly happened, it was illegal or not.
First rule or anthropology - NEVER judge the social norms of others by the social norms to which you have been conditioned.
I personally find it deplorable that in my own society the age of consent is sixteen. We should be ashamed of ourselves for making such young kids lawfully vulnerable to kiddie fiddlers.
And worse:
"The age of consent for heterosexual acts in England was set at 12 in 1275 during the reign of Edward I. It was lowered to 10 in the latter part of the 16th century..."
So should we really be throwing stones?

the truth about muhammed is that back then he was tortured by roman catholics because they wanted to get oil from the countries that had it (ASIA) so they captured muhammed unfortunately and put forth the idea he should make his own religion to get close to the people and get oil. That is why the Quran is so similar to the bible even though the bible was written first :| anyway after he done this people obviously began to believe him and he went onwards with the idea that he was the prophet up until his death. It is very sad anyone that is in the muslim religion, i mean it is just basically man-made :( ROMAN catholics and muhammad done a very bad thing against god.

mother of believers Ayisha may Allah / God be pleased with her was 16-17 years old at time of marriage

[she attended battle of Badr 1 year before [no one under 16 allowed]
the reporting error confusing many
According to hadith in Bukhari and Muslim, Aisha is said to have joined Muhammad on the raid that culminated in the Battle of Badr, in 624 CE. However, because no one below the age of fifteen was allowed to accompany raiding parties, Aisha should have been at least fifteen in 624 CE and thus at least thirteen when she was married following the Hijra in 622 CE.
