I want to move to Texas, which area is best for families?

I lived in Colorado moved to the east and south coast and I can't find anything good. I hear the economy in Texas is great and the cost of living is fairly low which is an awesome combo. I always hear great things about Texas. I have a family of five so I'm looking for a safe and clean environment to raise three kids. I am considering San Antonio. What do you think?

Any feedback, advice, or opinions are greatly appreciated.

To the above poster, of course moving to the border you would have more people that don't speak English. Not to mention it's ugly the farther south you go.

Anyway San Antonio's okay. Good place to raise a family. I don't think we were affected by the turn in the economy. I know it certainly wasn't like some other places where forclosure signs were everywhere. NISD is the best school district so you can look there for the stats. I wouldn't call it crime ridden mostly because I've never encountered crime but I do hear stories of gunshot victims and gang deaths on the news but I guess that's on the East or South sides. Areas are pretty spread out around here so unless you move to those areas I don't think you'll ever have a problem (I never have in my 24 years). Austin is also a good city to move to if you prefer something more laid back. Home prices in San Antonio are not that expensive you can get a nice home for $150,000 or an even better home for $300,000+. Prices are probably even cheaper when look outside the Northside.

I have family that moved to Texas (near the border) and did not like it.

Too many people that could not speak english.

Be a bit careful with this.

Choose good school districts with high ACT/SAT scores.

They seem to hold up their property values..

Auston is amazing and beautiful! It's the only place in Texas that I would recommend moving to.
