Undiagnosed Knee Pain. What is it?
For the past five months I have had excruciating pain in my knees. It is now to the point that I am physically disabled: I cannot walk a distance longer than 100 ft without needing to sit or lay down.
Here are the symptoms:
Swelling in both knees
Baker's Cyst in both knees (comes and goes)
Disabling pain in both knees
Pain continues after resting
.............................
(First couple months)
Knee effusion severe (could not bend or straighten knee)
Had the fluid withdrawn by doctor with cortisone shot (60+ cc's in left knee, 30 cc's in right knee. Temporary relief.)
Had a low grade fever that lasted for about 1 month
Knee would "adjust" to the inside knee (both knees).
By adjust, I mean it would pop on the inner side of the knee resulting in high levels of pain. After a few months, this stopped happening until a month ago when my left knee started popping again.

More recent
About a month ago I was walking outside and the ground dropped about an inch. This was enough to cause my knees to buckle and hyper flexed both of my knees. Left knee popped once, right knee popped three times. Started to go into shock after this. Uncontrolled shaking. Screamed for about two minutes (those two minutes I can barely remember). Went to a knee specialist and he told me that it was normal, which made sense after he explained why. On pain killers now.
Wrists dislocate occasionally (might be due to me having to use my hands to get up/down)
Tests the doctors have done
Doctors have taken an MRI and X-Ray in both knees. Chondromalacia found in both knees. A possible partial tear in the meniscus, later changed to no tear.
Blood tests were normal.
Negative for hepatitis (all).
Negative for Lyme's disease.
Negative for Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Histone AB Test: 1.1 (weakest positive, tests for inflammation)
Calcium was barely over the range, similar to the Histone AB test
Everything else was pretty much normal (several tests)
Urinalysis was normal

General Information
Icing has a minimal effect
Taking glucosamine, fish oil, Vitamin C, Slow Release vitamins (no iron), DHA, Acai, and perhaps one more
Pain at all times of the day. Worse at night. Hurts in the morning. Stiffness after sitting for a short period of time.
Must use hands to sit/lay down.

Waiting to hear from my RA doctor about the blood work. Also had x-rays on both wrists and SI joints to see if there is an infection or something odd.
Now that the general information is out of the way, here is the question.
What are possible diagnoses and why?
Thank you.
Thank you for sending me that website. I'm still looking at it and it's very informative.
The test that was done was the Western Blot. I saw from the website that 20-30% of the tests can be seronegative. What are the perks of IgeneX that the western blot does not have? I'm checking out the website now but having trouble finding anything more than tests.
I do have a few more questions.
Just had x-rays done on my SI joints and my bilateral wrists. Everything was normal there. Blood work, normal. Every test has been normal so far.
What are the long-term effects of Lyme's disease?
I did have a tick bite on my shin (right shin I believe) in August. Why would it go after just my knees? I know that it likes tissue more than blood due to it's shape, but why just the knees? Or, is it going to move elsewhere?
I'm listening to one of the videos of ilads.org, and I've got a few of the symptoms. Difficulty concentrating and retaining information, mood changes, and I do believe that the symptom

I agree with Lisa. Current lab tests for Lyme are very insensitive so a negative Lyme test doesn't carry alot of weight. Definitely don't get anymore steroids or surgery. Lyme is a very complex illness that requires a super- specialist. Someone willing to put in a lot of extra time and effort in studying it. The International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) provides that additional education. You can go to their website www.ILADS.org and use the contact us link to ask for a referral to a member near wherever you live. If you can get off all opiates your pain would probably be helped by a medication. Google 'low dose Naltrexone frequently asked questions' print out some info to give your doctor when you ask for a prescription. He probably won't have heard of it.
I think it's very possible that you do have Lyme and if so,you'll need to start killing some bugs before it spreads to to your nervous system, which inevitably seems to be their final destination.

Lyme disease is a possibility. Most Lyme tests are completely useless. You need to be tested by IgeneX. http://www.igenex.com/
Cortisone shots or any type of steroid medication is a bad idea if there's any possibility of Lyme disease. Steroids lower the immune system, allowing the Lyme bacteria to attack even harder.

it is a sign of synovial fluids getting exhausted and there is a large scale of knee rubbing against each other. it is recommended that you should take a complete rest from any activity for about a week and no weight at any cost. you will find the condition improves.
