There are two ways to determine your "WAN-IP address":

    (1) You can simply go to this site and it'll display your IP address: http://whatismyipaddress.com/

    (2) Type in "ipconfig /all" without the quotation in "Command Prompt". To get to Command Prompt, go to Start ► Accessories ► Command Prompt.

You don't need to know your IP address to setup your router. You simply plug it in and and setup security, which should be WPA2 and AES. To do this, you can either use the CD that came with your router or log into your router using the "default gateway" address and manually set it up. In Linksys routers for example, you would type in "192.168.1.1" into the address bar of your Internet browser to log into your router. The numbers are different for different manufacturers. Everything should be in the User's Guide.

When you connect to the Internet via a router, it'll automatically assign a "LAN-IP address" to each of your devices on the network. With Linksys routers, the first device that connects would be "192.168.1.100". You can get the router to make this LAN-IP (or "IPv4 address") to stay the same by assigning your computer's MAC address to a particular LAN-IP address.

connect to it with an ethernet cable. then hold the windows key and tap r. this will bring up a run window. type cmd > enter > ipconfig > enter and the "Default Gateway" address that shows up on your Local Area Connection is the address you go to for setting your router up.

it would be smarter to use the software setup that came with the router to set up your network. just put the disk in your drive and let it roll.
