that when they took great suffering to git here and that we as a people are suffering many of the things that they had been trying to escape from do you think they even would have bothered to come here at all

I think for the most part we've exceeded their desires. The original colonists, who came here to escape discrimination for their beliefs, were just as rigid and bigoted about their fellow colonists beliefs. Fortunately, by the time the Constitution was drafted, they had learned some valuable lessons over here and built them into the framework for the new government. Later we banned slavery, gave women the right to vote, passed child labor laws and anti-discrimination legislation, etc. I could care less what they would think. We're better than them in every way.
