Slow transfer speeds \ disconnects with SATA drive?

I have a year old 640GB Western Digital internal SATA drive which over the last couple of weeks has been troublesome. Very slow transfer speeds TO and FROM the drive (think under 1MB). Also the drive will randomly connect and not be visible in disk mang. in Windows 7. HD Tune reports the drive as clean. I've moved the drive to a different port and the issue continues. Other Western digital drives around the same size and age have no problem so I'm thinking maybe the controller on the drive is starting to go bad? Any ideas?

it would help to mention your motherboard. If its one of the older Sandy Bridge (Socket 1155) motherboards, those had a flaw that would cause the Sata 3.0 Slots to degrade in speed and even fail.

If it is one of the older Sandy Bridge motherboards like I said, then you will want to contact the manufacturer or your retailer for more information.
