Being charged $13,000 for moving out early?
Well I had a two year agreement to stay at the apartments at a rate of about $1000 a month but the thing is I had to move out for personal reasons and since I had 8 months left until the end of the contract they charging me $13,000 for breaking the contract. Can they do that? It would have been cheaper to just continue paying my monthly payment for the apartments without me living there.
They already got new people in the apartment though, so does this mean I dont have to pay?

I had the same thing happen to me, I ended up paying for an empty unit, but the managers were able to find new tenants so I did not have to pay for the entire time. Ask your building manager if that is acceptable to do instead. Is there any chance you can sub lease for the rest of the term?

They can collect the amount of rent owed for the remaining term of the contract.. in your case $8000 if you paid a security deposit of 1000 then it will be $7000 plus any damages. and you only have to pay for the time the unit is empty..so if 2 months from now they have new tenets then they cant be renting to them and still be making you pay for the unit.. all in all your might as well keep renting the unit or subleasing the place.

In Calif, theoretically you will possibly be to blame for all hire until eventually the hire expires. however the owner could attempt to re-hire your unit and might assemble 'existence like' promoting costs, cleansing costs, and so on. to make the unit waiting for yet another tenant. If the condo marketplace is comfortable, you may desire to be made to hire pay until eventually they could get new tenants. yet while they could sign new tenants formerly your hire expires, they won't be able to gather hire from 2 events - you would be out of your hire. the better shrink is what they could get in small claims court docket. It kills me when people ask strangers questions about a lease when all they need to do is read the document. Read the lease and see if what they are charging is specified in writing. If it is not, they cannot. If it is, they can.
