hp 146.8GB 10000 RPM Ultra320 SCSI to SCA80 80pin to 50pin adapter to ADAPTEC 2940au?
Hi,
hp 146.8GB 10000 RPM Ultra320 SCSI to SCA80 80pin to 50pin adapter to ADAPTEC 2940au
I have all of the above connected but sadly not working yet, i need the adapter because the hp drive is hot plug 80 pin, the scsi card is recognized fine at start up and sets its self to (ID 7) but I'm a little unsure about the jumper settings for this it appears the SCA80 adapter terminates its self as it has no jumper pin for termination.
Can anyone suggest anything i might be doing wrong i am assuming its jumpers as everything works fine in their respective machines.
The pin options I have are as follows: Denotes a pin >> |
LED | |
SYN | |
DLY | |
MTR | |
ID3 | |
ID2 | |
ID1 | |
ID0 | |
I tried a few variation but windows xp did not recognize the drive the operating system on the hp drives is windows small business server 2003 but I'm not wanting this to boot I want my ide drive with xp on to continue being the operating system I just want access to the scsi drive for file transfers and storage.
Is this even possible?

Only put one jumper on ID0, leave ID1 to 3 blank. That will set the drive to Disk ID=1
Other jumpers could all be off... LED is for a status led,you don't need that either...
You could leave all jumpers off, that makes the disk = unit0 - Boot the Adaptec BIOS (usually control A). and do a device scan to make sure the disk is online. Unfortunately, you have to re-boot and re-scan every time you change a drive jumper...
One final issue, is if the drive is differential or single ended on the SCSI. That could be an issue if the controller is the other way around... I have run 36GB SCSI SCA80 to a 2940UW, with adapters, both are "single ended" signal devices..
If the drive was part of a server, it may have been in some Raid configuration, you will have to partition and format it once it is online (with XP Disk management)
