Depends on what you want, I prefer long range striking and clinch work, not a big fan of protracted ground grappling, and I do Judo and Shotokan Ryu Karate.
Muay-Thai/Japanese kick-boxing, freestyle/collegiate wrestling and BJJ seem to be the go-to ones, but as a result things like hip and shoulder throws and reaps and sweeps are often absent, and long range in-out striking is an unusual tempo for them to deal with.
Depends on the individual and his/her aims.

I'd go with Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu think it would provide a solid, well-rounded combination that can be effective whether the fight stays up or goes to the ground. Totally depends on individual skills and size though. Different styles suit different people way better.

Thai boxing because it uses both kicks and punches and elbow and knees which can be used in so many aspects because the elbows and punches can be used when ground and pounding and also the clinch is used in thai boxing which can be used when fighter get close thaiboxing teaches you how to sweep and take people down so that would be one martial art the other would be judo because it involves more throws than ju jitsu but they both are pretty similar and would do the job as long as you good enough.
but tbh when it comes down to it its about the fighter.

I prefer kickboxing for stand up because it utilises both the arms and legs which is great for becoming an all round fighter. For the ground I prefer Judo because it is a mix of take downs and submissions, were as wrestling focuses on take downs and Jujitsu focuses on submissions.

I say muay thai and wrestling. There actually isn't much of a reason to this, just that the two arts are easiest to find put together. I really want to see more diversity in MMA outside the usual though.

Wrestling and Muay Thai. These are the most common and cover grappling and striking. I would have to say the grappler vs the striker the grappler will win 8 out of 10 times.

Boxing or Muay Thai and BJJ. and not to forget GnP (so dirty boxing is very important too). but if you do train boxing seriously you are well prepared for ground striking also. and way more effective on the ground in average are submission joint locks. so i would pick boxing and BJJ also.
