Have you ever been homophobic?

Hello,
1) Much depends on how one defines homophobic. This word is getting too over used for every snippy occasion like Male Chauvinist Pig a generation ago.
2) I was born in the early 50's. Most maps in school were pink and blue and you did not take people three generations from the bush, teach them to flush toilets and expect them to run a government the next. The likes of Tiger Woods would only be on a lot of golf courses as only a caddy. Homosexuality was considered abnormal and evil then as well. I remember my father who was a senior naval officer being on a court martial which kicked a gay officer out of the navy who was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. In other words I took a very dim view of gays and kept my distance. Nevertheless I never baited or harmed any physically.
3) Times changed and society evolved by the late 60's and into the 70's. I'm sure as hell not the first toc hange but I'm not the last either. I met many gays through girls I liked (true friends not trying to get into their pants) and came to the conclusion they were much like anyone else and had much to contribute and should be left alone and treated well.
Today I work with them, buy their art, music and mind my business about their sexuality and do not mock or run them down. There are some things I won't do like attending a gay wedding as it is contrary to my religious beliefs and values but thats about it.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

Sadly, yes, but I was raised that way...
Both of my parents are homophobic. I didn't agree with them and I fell in love with a female at a rather young age. I began to crush on my best friend and I was so confused.
I eventually came to realize my parents were wrong and that I was lesbian. I'm glad to have discovered it.
I think we may have all been homophobic at one point in our lives.

Yeah. Maybe I'm still homophobic somewhat. I know now homosexuality is normal, yet I still consider gay relationships dysfunctional and don't believe there can be true love between gays, just lust.

Hmm, i don't think so. But there were times before i accepted myself as a lesbian that i was afraid of my own lesbianism. Other people being gay has never bothered me.
