My Hamster has been sick for more than a week. And yes its been to the vet & on antibiotics.?
It is not improving. The Vet says she doesn't have much meds for it and that it should be healthy by now. I am looking for other remedies as i obviously have no other options left. Have you experienced this. I think its a respiratory infection. The cage is clean its in a warm place etc. Also giving it a bit of yogurt to replenish cultures in its stomach. Any other advice?

Sometimes with URIs there is a secondary infection, and so 2 antibiotics are required to cure the problem. One of my mice had an URI in January, and because she also had a secondary infection, the exotic vet put her on both Baytril and Doxycycline. Using the 2 medications did the trick, but I know had she been on just the Baytril alone, she would not have made it.
Hamsters and mice are not always treated with the same medications. I will give you a list of safe and unsafe medicines for your hamster. The link is as follows:

Doxycycline is a tetracycline type medicine. Hamsters CANNOT have tetracycline, so ask about getting a different kind. I would, though, insist upon having your little one put on 2 antibiotics to treat the problem as it does indeed sound like a secondary infection is involved.

Fresh digest for dogs is to help stomach it has plant fos's in it. Just put a pinch daily in her food. Another product is called Ferret Rx. Its like Vicks for small animals. Just put a little bit on her nose.
