PS3 help! What should I do? Should I update? Do i need it?

Question

I have a newer PS3 so it does not have a cooling fan. I have it in a small cabinet that we use as a TV stand. 

Today I put in my new game that I bought from a friend (Smack Down vs Raw 2011) and it told me to do a update. He got this game when it first came out but never played it so he sold it to me (i dont know if that was relevant). 

my screen has 2 bars on it. 
One loading Bar has 18% and the other has 6%.
in between them it says 1/2
On the left there is a box with a gray remote and under it, it says 368 mb.


My question is, should I push through with the update? or is it gonna break my ps3? Is it best to just go cancel the update? Is this update for online play only?

 Im afraid that my playstation is gonna over heat and break.

first of all you should find a different place for the ps3,it shouldn't be in a cabinet,it needs to have plenty of air flow so it wont overheat.i have my old fat ps3 on 4 small block that are 2-3 inches tall,they are under the little black feet under the ps3,then in the summer i use a 6 inch desk fan to help keep it cooled down,this has worked great for about 5 years now.as for the update,you could try looking up what its for but that's usually a pain in the butt,if you can find it.any of the updates whether for the ps3 itself or for a game will not break your ps3,just follow the instructions and you will be fine.hope this helps.have fun gaming.

yes it's worth .don't worry . Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is very good

The plot was well thought out, the characters are very enjoyable, and the graphics are superb. By far the best Kingdom Hearts game. The game is supposed to take you 45 hours to complete all 3 stories so I think I will be held over for a while.
